Summer Camp Recap: Flight Engineering & Weather Report

With summer in full swing, parents seek engaging and educational activities for their children. That is where the South Jersey Innovation Center’s (SJIC) Flight Engineering and Weather Report summer camp came in. Tailored for children aged 8 to 14 with a passion for learning, this camp was a captivating delve into the worlds of aerospace and meteorology.

Camp instructors Diana Suralik and Felipe Lafosse incorporated a variety of hands-on individual and group activities in order to ensure the campers were challenged all week long. Lafosse spearheaded the flight engineering portion of camp, immersing campers in fun activities such as drone flying, launching soda bottle rockets, and mastering the art of origami paper airplanes. Suralik curated the meteorology curriculum, leading the campers through engaging activities like crafting density rainbow jars, building functional anemometers, and decoding intricate METAR weather reports. Throughout the week, campers were challenged to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The SJIC’s Flight Engineering and Weather Report summer camp definitely provided a stimulating learning environment! At the camp’s end, the campers got the opportunity to show to their parents all of the hard work they had done all week.
