Summer Camp Recap: Coding with Scratch

Young innovators were immersed into the world of coding this week at the South Jersey Innovation Center’s (SJIC) Coding with Scratch Summer Camp! The camp was thoughtfully designed to accommodate both experienced and new coders by splitting the campers up by placing everyone in a group that matched their skill level. Campers worked with a block-based visual coding language named Scratch. It makes learning to code fun and accessible.

For the beginners, the camp offered a fun introduction to coding through projects like math quiz games, maze navigation, and even a classic Pong game. These activities helped them grasp the fundamentals of coding while also keeping the learning process enjoyable and hands-on.

Meanwhile, the  more experienced coders were challenged with advanced tasks like building platforms, implementing point systems, and designing hitboxes. These projects pushed their skills further and provided a deeper understanding of coding principles.

No matter their skill level, every camper was engaged, learning, and creating in an environment that fosters creativity and technical growth. This camp at the SJIC is truly a place where young coders can thrive and develop their abilities–whether they are just starting out or ready to tackle more complex challenges.

A leading provider of STEAM enrichment activities, the SJIC offers the following Summer Camps: Filmmaking, Chess Camp 1, and Chess Camp 2. Interested in signing up? Register here.
