There is no doubt that the last two weeks of camp at the South Jersey Innovation Center (SJIC) have been chess-filled, thanks to Chess Camp! Young players of all skill levels excitedly entered the Center, ready for a STEMulating experience. These camp sessions were meticulously designed to build the campers’ skills through practical play, puzzles, and theory–all of which sharpened
The first week focused on the fundamentals of chess, including openings and essential tactics. Then, the second camp worked on strategy and decision-making. A definite highlight of the camps was the fact that FIDE Master Dov Gorman was the camp instructor!
Beyond chess, important life skills were also being developed. Chess is known for developing patience, abstract reasoning skills, adaptability, and other important skills to have for the 21st century.
