If you have ever played a chess game before, you can attest to the difficulty of this thought-provoking game. Now, imagine playing two, three, or even ten chess games at once. Insanity, right? Not for someone like Grandmaster Aleksandr Lenderman. (pictured above)
Short for Simultaneous Exhibition, a “Simul” is when one chess player (generally with a higher rating) plays two or more chess games at once. For the individual playing multiple games at once, playing a Simul helps develop good decision-making and multi-tasking skills. For the opponents playing only one game at once, playing against this higher rated player exposes them to more advanced play. And for the spectators, it is absolutely intriguing to watch.
On February 11, 2023, Grandmaster Aleksandr Lenderman, a world class player, is visiting South Jersey Innovation Center (SJIC) to offer his wisdom on different chess strategies he has learned through the years. This event will be followed by the very special chance to play with the Grandmaster himself in a game of Simul chess! Players of all ratings are welcome to join in on the fun, however, due to limited spots in the Simul, SJIC strongly encourages those interested to sign up fast!
A leading center for STEM instruction (including math, computing, and robotics), SJIC offers superb instructional chess programs for both children and adults. SJIC hosts official rated chess tournaments every other Sunday and rated rapid tournaments every Wednesday night.
