SJIC camps offer new and exciting programs during all school breaks so your child can continue learning in a fun, STEMulating environment! Camp days include various programs, experiments, challenges, and guest speakers plus breaks of games of strategy and outdoor play to ensure each child is having fun and learning at the same time.

Chess: Opening Strategy

June 27 – July 1 | Ages 6 – 16

The perfect way to introduce the game of kings to new students. FIDE Chess Master Dov Gorman and his assistants will provide daily lessons, puzzles and organized play to help guide beginning chess students through each session. Campers will achieve a solid foundation of the fundamental skills needed to begin a lifetime of learning chess and have lots of fun doing it.

Chess: Middlegame Strategy I

July 11 – July 15 | Ages 6 – 16

Now that you’re out of the opening, what’s next? Set up your middlegame plan and attack! Learn tactics to control the board to set yourself up for success.

BattleBots: EV3 Robotics

July 18 – July 22 | Ages 8 – 16

Use Scratch to code and program a robot to complete tasks and behaviors and design an EV3 robot to navigate obstacles, defend itself and spar with other robots. Then, participate in a robot combat elimination-style competition that will crown one ultimate battle robot design!

CYO Minecraft World in Unity!

July 25 – July 29 | Ages 10 – 16

Have you ever wanted to know how Minecraft generates its world or how to create your own Minecraft blocks? Create your own Minecraft world in Unity and implement controls to move your own character, place, and destroy blocks! Save your world and creations to share and play your game design with friends!

Flight Engineering

August 1 – August 5 | Ages 8 – 16

Become an aerodynamics engineer and discover what is unique about aircraft and propulsion systems. Build your own aircraft and compare the efficacy of different construction materials. Explore the fundamentals of drone flight and what it takes to pilot a drone. Then, test your skills in the Drone Obstacle Course Challenge!

Battle of the Bands

Augst 8 – August 12 | Ages 8 – 16

 

Dive into the intersection of science and music, from the physics of harmony to the endless capabilities of electronic instruments. Invent your own instrument, learn how to code it with the Scratch language, and practice playing your favorite songs (or composing your own)! For the finale, you’ll team up with other musicians to jam out and then prepare to face off in the Battle of the Bands.

CSI: Mt. Laurel

August 15 – August 19 | Ages 8 – 16

Who dunnit? Step into the role of a Crime Scene Investigator and work in teams to solve a mystery crime scene! Interview suspects and bystanders, gather and analyze incriminating evidence and make your case for the jury.

Chess: Middlegame Strategy II

August 22 – August 26| Ages 6 – 16

Develop the breadth of your skill and practice in this continuation of Middlegame chess strategy and skill development.

Chess: Endgame Strategy

August 29 – September 2 | Ages 6 – 16

Experienced players will gain a deeper understanding of tactical chess strategies needed to defeat their opponents and win tournaments. This intensive instruction is a must for aspiring chess stars!
